Birthday Weekend

I had a lovely birthday weekend. On Saturday, wndl threw me a party complete with friends, food and strange weather. Well, the weather was an unplanned bonus, unlike last year, it didn't snow but we did have a freakish hail storm.

It just wouldn't be a party without hot meat

wndl whipped up a lovely spinach/pasta salad of massive proportions and made her signature garlic bread and a sumptious batch of baked beans made with an entire pound of bacon.

My responsibility was grilling up the meat. We had a large amount of pork loin marinated in two batches: garlic and barbeque sauce. It's a combination I love: meat and flame.

Earlier in the day, before the official start of the party, wndl and I were putting the finishing touches on the house when someone knocked on our door. We were downstairs, and as I began to climb the steps, a strange man from the north entered. It was theantix making a surprise visit. I looked at wndl to see if she was surprised too, but she just looked smug. Ahhh, good one wndl.

As mentioned previously, we had a freakish hail storm. This wasn't a midwest hail storm that could kill but it was sudden and loud and attention getting. We'd gathered a good group of party goers by then and we all moved toward the windows to look. Why was the hail freakish? Because of what it delivered to us. Suddenly the back door opened and a man appeared, a man from hail. It was another surprise guest, terpia from portlandia, and wndl's smug look returned. Ahhhh, good one. After a hello hug for terpy, I joined the others on the patio. The hail created a thunderous noise hitting the fiberglass roof. Zelly was transfixed. She simultaneously clung to me and wiggled around trying to catch some hail.

We ate, we relaxed, we gabbed and we ate some more. The people who attended were some of my dearest friends and from what I could see, all enjoyed each other's company. Thank you all for coming and, of course, thanks for the lovely gifts. I won't post a complete list, but there were a few gardening related gifts which will be put to use very soon. The beautiful garden bench from wndl and my brother Wayne awaits assembly, that's on the project list for this Saturday.

Entertainment was provided by zelly, who busted more moves than we thought a person could have. We've got a clip (thanks tixy!) over at the zelly zone.

Our out of town guests spent the night in the basement B&B, joining us for a long leisurely morning before returning to their lands of origin.
