I realized last night that it's been awhile since I've written anything here. It's high time for a bit of catch up before I go offline for a week. Yes, a week, you don't think I can handle it? I'll be just fine on the beach, in a hot tub, in the sand, with my guitar, with my family. And friends, bunches of them. I won't miss this a bit, no, not at all....
Will you miss me?
The family and I will take off late this week and head down to the Oregon coast, to a place called Twin Rocks. It's a little north of Tillamook, for you cheese-heads. The weather forecast is not optimistic, unfortunately: overcast, cool, some rain. Oh, well. Vacation is still time away from work and chores and such. Well, there will be chores, we're going to be sharing a house with a buncha kids and adults, but they won't be the same chores I'd be doing at home. I anticipate much sleeping, visiting, eating, strolling and guitar playing.
Until then there are preparations to be made, lists to write, things to remember and forget and stitches to remove, hopefully. Wendy goes in for her surgery follow-up today and we're hoping that means she'll come back stitch and splint free. She yearns to clench her hand and bend her pinky.
I chose the hottest days of the year (so far) to do a lot of work in the yard. Scott and I (thanks!) moved a big pile of wood chips. We had to finish prior to Wendy's Mom's visit so she could park her little RV in our extra driveway. I had perennials and annuals from my mom to plant and a few more that I purchased last week at Lowe's. The cooler weather that has descended on us this week is good for those plants, I won't have to worry as much about them dying while I'm gone.
I'm tying up loose ends at work, finishing off the last of the documents for the big ACAS project we just completed and adding items to the enhancement list (yes, already).
[Wendy Finger Update] Dang! Still splinted, wrapped and stitched is she, but with no infection, weeheee! She has permission to remove wrap and splint next Tuesday, while we're away. Arggg... guess I'm stuck with all the Zelly baths for a little while longer ;-)
[Afternoon Interlude of Silliness] As the saying goes, you are not expected to understand this: I fancy a black shirt with white lettering - front: Rack Mounted Scorn, back: Pinch The Biscuit. If you *do* understand this, get that thing made up in an XL and send it to me, baby.
[Afternoon Interlude of Sadness] A 21 year old man jumped to his death from the Capitol Boulevard overpass onto I5 today. Yikes, puts my petty complaints into perspective.
I had to renew my driver's license today, having discovered on Saturday that it expired 3 months ago. I was having an end-of-the-season lunch with members of my soccer team and most of us were ordering margaritas. The waiter was dutifully checking all our IDs and noticed that my friend's had expired. She knew that, the valid one was lost with her wallet. It prompted me to check mine.. and there it was, evidence of expiration. The good news is that we all got our drinks and they were yummy. I went today, as I said, to the Dept. of Licensing very near work and was pleasantly surprised at the lack of wait. I did have to leave briefly, go to the bank and get cash for the transaction, but upon my return, I waited a moment before being called up. And, no, the picture isn't all that great, most license pictures aren't. They very consistently catch the underside of my jaw, giving my already round face a bit more size than it needs. However, compared to my previous picture, I'm positively svelte now. I can really see my weight loss when I look at that picture. And, strangely enough, the weight listed on my driver's license is very close to reality, for the first time in years... (I'm waiting for the twilight zone music).
[Old Fart Alert] I am going to be driving from vacation-zone to the new White River Amphitheatre in order to attend a Heart concert with my dearest brother Wayne, in honor of his birthday and his return from Europe in one piece. Now, that alone is cool enough for us, being Heart fanz from way, way, waaaaay back. But check this out, the 'special guest' act is Berlin. Now that is cool upon cool. I have always liked Berlin, and not just for the Sex song. White River is a new venue and this is the inaugural show. The place looks great, at least from my web browser vantage point, and if I don't suffer from spontaneous memory loss during my vacation, I'll post a brief review of the concert and location.
Ok, for those of you who've stuck around for this whole post, thanks, have a good one, see ya after vacay. For those of you who drifted away early to read other more exciting blogs, or maybe you're just looking at pictures ;-) .. anyway, for you people I have this message: ThPPPPPTTTTT!!! Not that it matters since you're not reading this anyway.
laters.
